Game mechanics for King of the Board

King of the Board ( K.O.B) is an original idea for my board game project, here at Ringling College of Art and design
  • The game is for 2- 6 players ( 4 minimum suggested);20-45 minutes.

Goal : To collect 3 keys in the provided map  to be declared as the kind of the boar and win the game.

Mechanics:
  • There are both strategy and luck based mechanics involved in this game. in a ratio of strategy to luck.
  •  I would place 70:30. Where strategy covers 70% of the game and luck covers 30%.

Mechanics Explained :

Strategy:
  •  The game is played with 6 characters .
  • Each player will draw a character and will  place its down facing up to show which character they have picked (Note:  all 6 characters have weaknesses and strengths against one another; therefore not giving equal opportunity to others to win the game).
  •  Each of the 6  character cards will come with 6 small tiles, out of which 3 consisting of offensive abilities and the other 3 defensive abilities.
  •  One of the few ways for a player to win the game is either to collaborate while racing  to get all 3 keys; for example if a player a week and hes facing another player who is stronger than him,  then he/she can use this turn to communicate with other players who are close to him to see if they can make an alliance for a short while to beat the stronger player.
  • A stronger player can take an advantage of the situation and deal enough damage to the weaker player to send him few steps back and obtaining half of his money and proceed  forward for obtaining the keys.
  • If a player's HP reaches zero more than twice, he/she will be dismissed from the game. Thus choosing you allies and enemies comes into play with strategies.
  • If there are 2 players who allied them selves and have beaten the other players  and one of them have 2 keys and the other had the third key, they will have to fight to death; and who ever inflicts maximum damage wins the game.
Luck:
  • The luck factor comes into play; when the players ate duel against one another. as mentioned above. that each character come with 6 tiles.
  •  Out of which 3 tiles are offensive, and 3 defensive. Each of the two sub groups will be rated  the amount of damage you inflict  and the amount of defense your character uses to keep you as a player in the game.
  • When challenged by other player, the player who  challenges will take his 3 offensive tiles and shuffle them;while the player defending themselves will take his 3 defensive tiles. if the attacker has placed the higher number tile than the defensive the defensive player will  take attacker-defensive= to the amount of damage they take
  • If the defensive is more than the attack, the attack can be repelled by a certain amount. Every player gets 1 redemption card that allows them to regenerate weather their health is 0 or close to 0.
  • when a player activated this card their Hp  go back to moderate and can continue the race. However, if their HP falls to 0 and they have already used the redemption card, they will be disqualified from the game.
  • Rare items:With all of the above, players will also be facing few monsters to fight, from few of which they could obtain rare items and can upgrade their weapons

Particles Refrence and Tutorial!!!!!!!!

Hey guys! For this post, I am excited to announce that I have been learning particles in Unreal Engine 4. And i have to say I have learned alot and enjoyed learning particle this far.  When i first started learning them, I thought they would be complicated, but the statement prooved to be false and was surperised how easy it was to understand them and apply them. After practicing through the tutorials I have learned  all the different types of particles, such as, emitter particle effects, HUD emitter particle effects, Mesh particles, Ribbon particles,  animation curve particles. Anyway, continuing the current assignment, i had to do some research on what kind of a particle do I need to work on and how I can apply that to my other collaborative project of the racing level. And the answer to that was kinda obvious. since i wanted to  have a sand storm in my level, I decided to peruse the sand storm effect. I looked at few real life references and few game ones....

Level analysis of Asphalt 8 Airbone

Asphalt 8 Airborne -  London Track- Classic Game over view:  A sphalt  8 Airborne is a racing  game created for IOS and android systems. PONG - Aracade Hits

For my programming class we created PONG  with a little bit of twist. We were paired in a team of two . and we assigned ourselves  a role of a programmer and the other a role of  of effects/ art. I had assumed of the former.  My first goal was to make the  game of pong look like  an old school pong that people can relate to. There fore Black and  white was the color scheme that i went with.  My main goal was to focus on how effects as the effects would  get the players more interested in our game. After creating the color scheme. I wanted  to add a bit of the dramatic flare to it, thus i started making particle effects for the tail of the ball and the radial bursts. For the Trail. I applied a material with opeque properties and  applies it into the cascade UI required module. Following are the values that i changed. I had also disabled velocity so that the trail would look seamless. And for the  radial ...
